Computational Neuroscience base rates

Based on attendance at the annual COSYNE (computational systems neuroscience) meeting in 2016, the base rate of women in the field* is 17-18% (there were 17% women in the main conference, 18% in the workshops)

Another measure is the proportion of women PIs on CRCNS (collaborative research in computational neuroscience) grants, which is 19-20% as of September 2016 (20% based on NIH RePORTER (search for grants whose title starts with “CRCNS”) and 19% based on the NSF listing of previously awarded grants).

* Note that this base rate may misrepresent the field of computational neuroscience as a whole as COSYNE does not include computational cognitive neuroscience and in 2016 the conference underrepresented fields such as fMRI research.
